Study implications of German ‘Energiewende’

Engagement

Large construction firm explores implications of the German ‘Energiewende’.

Background

The ‘Energiewende’ in Germany, a transition from coal and nuclear-based energy to wind and solar energy, also has implications for the construction and building industry. Our client, a large Dutch construction firm with subsidiaries in Germany, aims to explore the effects of this transition for building contracts in surface mining.

Customer's dilemma

What are the short and long term effects of the German Energiewende for the activities in surface mining? What are resulting scenarios for our subsidiaries?

Our contribution

JBR has collected relevant market trends for the European, German and regional energy markets and activities by means of desk research and interviews. These trends were translated into effects on the regions where our customers subsidiaries are active. After presentation and discussion of the results a number of scenarios for the investments are created on the basis of an internal and external analysis of the various activities.

The result

An extensive market and scenario study for the subsidiaries. This analysis supported the client in updating their portfolio strategy.
